My how time flies. November was my last post, some things have stayed the same apparently but, some things have progressed. I’ll bore you with the details…

I’ll be making some changes to the website. I still am not very adept at WordPress so forgive me in advance for the slow pace. Since I last posted I have been playing around with Canva and have gone ahead and subscribed to their “Pro” edition so I’ll be using that to help improve the looks of the site. I’ll continue with the blogging but I want the site to be more of a branding then it is now and to showcase services that I will be offering in the near future.

Part of the whole branding package will be the addition to the site of a “Headshot.” I’m working with a photographer to create one. I’ve had the consultation with her and I’ll be scheduling the shoot in the next couple of weeks dependent on her schedule. We’re just waiting for my wife’s consultation for hers to finalize the schedule. I’m assuming you’ll be able to see my mug posted on the site around mid March.

In regards to my TV project concerning firefighters. I rewrote the pitch but for reasons that I can’t remember I rebranded the pitch for all first responders instead of only firefighters. Anyway, I ended up pitching the new version to a couple of industry reps on Stage32. One of them was a talent management rep and the other was a rep from a production company. The production company rep passed on the project but he gave me some really good feedback which I have started to incorporate into a rewrite. The talent management rep wanted me to send him my Pitch Deck. First off, I had no idea what the hell a Pitch Deck was. So after some hurried research, a Stage32 class and a crash course in Canva, I was off and running. I’m not really sure it’s what he wanted, as of this writing I haven’t heard back, but now I have a crude Pitch Deck as a starting point. Once I complete my pitch sheets along with some more research on Pitch Decks, I’ll start incorporating that into my Deck. I’m really pleased, and excited, that both reps were very interested in the concept. I also will be going back to covering firefighters in the concept, with a sprinkling of other first responders of course. As part of the feedback, I changed the name (still a working title though) to Beyond the Smoke, quite a bit of a more snappy title than Firefighters: Worldwide. I’ll also be changing that on the “Story Time” tab of the site in a few days.

I took an introductory course on graphic design through Udemy and, while interesting, it didn’t really tickle my fancy. I guess I’m pretty good at figuring out what I don’t want to do. What I do want to do however, is voiceover work. Yes, I did take a course on voiceover through Udemy. What can I say, I like take courses. I did some research on voiceover many years ago, mostly just reading books about it and dreaming. As was my modus operandi, that’s all I did with it. What held me back was fear of the unknown, self doubt, low self esteem, and weirdly/sadly enough, I was afraid of what people might think. What’s motivating me to move forward now? Age. For one, when you get older you start thinking that well, maybe I’m running out of time and I had better get going; and two, I’ve also noticed that as I’ve gotten older what other people think has gone from a concern to fuck ’em. So, here I am. I’ve picked out a mic and today I’ll be laying out a list of other items to purchase for my home studio. I have the money budgeted and have picked out a spot in my house for the studio. Of course, I’ll keep you posted and it will also be something that you’ll be able to access from my site in the future.

Well, that’s enough for now I guess. If anybody’s reading this stuff, thank you.

Be well!
